The incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Chestnut Avenue, a dead-end street in the Harbor Heights area of Mamaroneck.

Details of the nature of the injuries sustained by the child that prompted the police response have not yet been released, but NBC New York is reporting that the death of the toddler is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers performed life-saving measures on the child upon arrival and immediately called for an ambulance. Medical examiners will perform an autopsy to determine how the toddler died.

Police said the 28-year-old woman, who remains hospitalized, was given "numerous commands to show her hands" before attacking officers with a knife after being Tasered. Police did not say how many shots were fired at the woman, who has been identified as Cynthia Arce, according to a News 12 report

The child has been ID'd as Gabriella Maria Boyd, the report said. Gabriella was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center, where Cynthia Arce is currently hospitalized.

A court order was issued to remove the child from the home on Friday, according to News 12, which reported the child's father, Steve Boyd, believed his daughter was in danger.

Two officers suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said. Two other officers were also evaluated at the hospital, police said.

Charges have not yet been filed.
